Summary: Swiss Family Robinson meets five-star luxury in this riverside retreat tucked away in the highlands of Bali’s Ubud region. The spa visit begins with a refreshing cup of lime-spiked green tea served at check-in in the open air reception area. Each guest is then escorted by an attendant to one of six private treatment pavilions. The teak-filled pavilions are built for privacy and comfort with self-contained dressing areas, bathrooms, showers, and enormous zinc soaking tubs. Don’t expect to hear soothing strains of piped in spa tunes. The spa is built on the banks of the Petanu River in the heart of a rainforest. The only music here is nature made, with a steady rhythm of flowing water punctuated by the songs of the brightly colored tropical birds that call this paradise home.
What the therapists lacked in language skills they more than made up for in talent. The Harmony Duo massage was choreographed with two pairs of hands working in perfect sync using the same pressure, stroke technique and pacing for the hour-long treatment.
The highlight of every spa package is your choice of a relaxing 30-minute herbal or flower bath. Picture soaking in an oversized alfresco tub perched like a tree house above a rainforest river, nibbling on fresh fruit and swapping glances with a komodo dragon sunning itself on a boulder below and a pair of toucans swaying from a tree branch so close you could touch it. Communing with nature has never been more luxurious.
