SPA: Jurlique Spa at Firesky Resort , Scottsdale, AZ
TYPE: Day Spa
PRICING: Facials $70-$190; Massages $70-$190; Body Treatments $125-$180; Water Therapy $50
SIGNATURE TREATMENTS: Zen Harmony Facial, Signature Harmony Massage, Tea Tree Body Polish
TREATMENTS RECEIVED: Harmony Massage, Tea Tree Body Polish
SUMMARY: This quaint, garden-themed spa sits on a Kimpton Hotel property but is independent of the hotel. The facility is compact, with only six treatment rooms, one full bathroom, no locker room or lounge area for guests. The reception area doubles as the gift shop, with most shelf space occupied by Jurlique, a highly regarded producer of organic skin care and spa products from Australia. The facial and body treatments are designed to showcase the benefits of this outstanding product line, like the Tea Tree Body Polish which incorporates a unique exfoliating oil rub that doesn’t require water for removal.
The country garden theme is carried throughout the spa with great attention to design detail in the botanical prints, vintage crystal bead sconces and subdued sage and putty colored linens. The receptionist was pleasant and accommodating, but flustered when we showed up early and asked to change into spa robes. Apparently, this is not the normal routine. Baskets were supplied for belongings and we were sent to wait in a treatment room. The treatments began late, but both the male massage therapist and female spa therapist were able to extend the length of the treatments because we were the last bookings of the day. The treatments were well executed, but the overall experience was marred by the delayed start and the uncomfortable feeling of putting street clothes back on skin coated in oil.
