Summary:  An above average example of an authentic local Balinese day spa.  They try hard to please and almost succeed.   Ambience ranged from opulent reception area and lush gardens to institutional-looking dressing areas and treatment rooms. The non-existent gift shop was a missed opportunity to promote their wonderful blends of spa oils, lotions and incense.  Tropical plants and volcanic rock clusters landscaped the rectangular courtyard garden in the center with treatment rooms lining the perimeter.  The few touted “spa villas” were nothing more than treatment rooms that used drapes instead of doors for privacy.

Covering clients with bed linens is not standard procedure here, so leave your modesty at home. Robes are removed once you enter the treatment rooms and you are left wearing only a pair of disposable panties for the duration of your spa experience.  The exception is the Thai massage, in which you wear a loose fitting pullover shirt and drawstring pants provided by the spa.  Although the Thai massage beds were extremely comfortable, the bare light bulbs overhead, steady hum of street traffic noise, loud music and a therapist with an overpowering touch and body odor made the experience less than pleasant and turned what should have been two hours of Thai massage bliss into an experience bordering on torture.  It’s hard to enjoy a massage when you have to hold your breath!  Body scrub treatments using native botanicals and spices were later performed competently and in an unhurried pace by smiling therapists who spoke very little English.  With all of the outstanding resort spas available nearby, this spa has room for improvement but may appeal to cost conscious tourists.
